 CLASS DAY AND CLASSTIME…Fall and Spring Semesters  ( 1 day)  Sunday from 1pm to 4pm-the first class is the first Sunday of the Semester and ends on the last Sunday of the Semester…Summer Semester ( 2 days) Sunday from 1pm to 4pm and Monday from 5pm to 8pm-first class starts on the first Monday of the Semester and ends on the last Monday of the Semester.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Fundamentals of Golf, (golf grip, golf stance, ball placement, putting, chipping, sand shots, iron shots, wood shots, basic rules of golf and golf course etiquette)

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOME:  Demonstrate basic golf skills, have a knowledge of the rules and language of golf, and an understanding of golf course play by completing a round of golf.

COURSE OBJECTIVES: (1) Each student will be able to comfortably play a round of golf (2)Each student will perform basic golf skills at a level that will enable them to play a round of golf (3) Each student will demonstrate an understanding of the rules and etiquette of golf.

COURSE MATERIALS: If the student have their own Golf Clubs please bring them to class to use. If the student doesn’t have their own Golf Clubs, the Class Instructor will provide all the necessary equipment needed for each class subject.

COURSE GRADING: There will be Six (6) golf shot skills test (putting, chipping, sand-shot, short iron shot, mid iron/hybrid club shot and tee shot) that each one will account for 10 percent of the final grade. There will be two (2) midterm written tests given pertaining to basic golf rules and golf etiquette, each accounting for ten (10) percent of the final grade. There is a Final Test given on the last day of class pertaining to basic golf rules, golf course etiquette,and basic knowledge of the golf game. Final Grading will be as follows. When the student can satisfactory hit the golf shot of the skill test, they will receive 10 points for each skill test. (1) Putting, Beginning Student will have to putt 5 putts into cup from 3’ in 10 attempts. Intermediate and Advanced Student will have to putt 7 putts into the cup from 3' in 10 attempts. (2) Chipping, Beginning Student will have to chip 5 balls from off the green to inside of 6’ of the pin in 10 attempts. Intermediate and Advanced Student will have to chip 7 balls from off the green to inside of 4' of the pin in 10 attempts. (3) Sand shot, Beginning Student will have to hit 5 balls out of the sand bunker onto the green in 10 attempts. Intermediate and Advanced Students will have to hit 7 balls out of the sand bunker onto green in 10 attempts (4) Short iron shot 100 yards, Beginning Student will have to hit 5 shots from the driving range tee box onto driving range green in ten attempts. Intermediate and Advanced Student will have to hit 7 shots from the driving range tee box onto the driving range green in 10 attempts.

(5) Mid iron/Hybrid club shot 150yards, Beginning Student will have to hit 5 balls from the driving range tee box onto the driving range green in 10 attempts. Intermediate and Advanced Student will have to hit 7 balls from the driving range tee box onto the driving range green in 10 attempts.

(6) Tee shot, Beginning Student will have to hit 5 balls into the driving range fairway from the driving range tee box in 10 attempts. Intermediate and Advanced Student will have to hit 7 balls into the driving range fairway from the driving range tee box in 10 attempts). Each student will receive 10 points for correctly answering 80% of the two mid-term tests. Each student will receive 20 points for answering 80% of the final test. The student can earn an extra 5 points for each make up and extra practice sessions. With a maximum of 20 extra points per semester allowed….{A} 100-80 points….{B} 80-60 points….{C} 60-50 points….{D} 50-40 points….{F} Below 40 points. Successfully complete all 6 skill tests=60 points….Successfully answer 80% of the midterm tests 1 and 2=20 points….Successfully answer 80% of the final test=20 points ….60 20 20=100 total points.    

METHOD OF INSTRUCTION: The Instructor will explain and demonstrate each golf shot. The Instructor will give one on one instruction to each student. The instructor will give a rules and etiquette class and will explain how each basic rule will apply to different situations in playing the game of golf. Also during each class session the instructor will note rules and etiquette that apply to that class session.

CELLULAR PHONE CALLS AND CLASS CONDUCT: Emergency calls only, please keep them short and please move away from the class. Safety is very important to each student, please reframe from any horseplay, and be aware of your and the rest of the class surroundings.

DRESS CODE: Dress according to the weather. Hot weather one should dress to stay cool but protected from the sun and heat. Cold weather one should dress for warmth, in layers (shirt-sweater-windbreaker). Wear a shoe that has gripping sole, such as a ( golf shoe, cross trainer shoe or running shoe) it is important to keep the feet from slipping. Wear a head gear to protect against the elements (cap, hat or visor).

ATTENDANCE:  There is a different golf shot being taught each class date, being at class is important as not to fall behind the rest of the class. If you have to miss a class you can make up the class by playing around of golf at any golf course. Turn the scorecard into Instructor-signed, attested and dated. Write on the scorecard a brief description the highlights of your round of golf and also what you feel you need to practice on to do better the next time you play a round of golf.  Range practice can also be used to make up a missed golf class, each hour that is missed needs one hour of practice time. There are the skill tests that account for part of the final grade, if a class is missed during the testing of a skill test. The Instructor will work with you to successfully complete the skill test. Five (5) extra points will be given for each make session. Also five (5) extra points will be given for each extra practice session. There will be a maximum of 20 points allowed for the semester. The makeup and extra practice sessions can be done at anytime other than class hours. Make up or extra practice sessions can be done during the morning before the class or after the class period, or through the week. Important note this is a Positive Attendance Course and the attendance is tracked. Only class days and scheduled make up days when the Instructor is present will be counted.

AS AN AVID GOLFER, John Banks the Instructor of the MJC Beginning Golf Class, Intermediate Golf Class and Advanced Golf Class has one true desire. He wants each student that takes these classes to acquire the same Love and Passion for the Game of Golf. This is a game that you can play the rest of your life.
