Dr. Stephanie Beaver
Information
Stephanie Beaver-Guzman, Ed.D., is a Special Programs Counselor at Columbia College. She works for the Extended Opportunity Programs & Services (EOP&S) & Cooperative Agencies & Resources for Education (CARE) Programs, TRiO Student Support Services (SSS) Program, and is the designated Foster Youth Counselor, Native Students Counselor and CalWORKs Counselor. She has helped coordinate the creation and implementation of Columbia's first campus program for current and former foster youth, Phoenix Scholars. She is also the liaison for the college and local tribal Nations.
She has helped organize four annual
campus events in a series called Native Voices, where the campus and local area
community hear from Indigenous people about their own experiences. The most recent, April 2022, was Native Voices: Showcasing Indigenous Hip Hop, where she helped facilitate
an academic lecture about this topic and brought in three different Native
American Hip Hop artists/groups.
She teaches Guide 18, Life Skills for Higher Education, and ETHS 15, Native People of North America at Columbia. She also teaches at CSU Stanislaus in Ethnic Studies and the Doctorate Program for Education, Educational Leadership. She is also a consultant for the Tuolumne Me-Wuk Tribal Social Services Department. Stephanie also supports the local and regional foster youth community as a professional expert with Columbia's Foster & Kinship Care Education (FKCE) Program, as an advocate and source of support for youth, caregivers, and professionals, the Yolo County Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for Foster Youth, and the Central Valley Foster & Homeless Youth Educational Consortium. She attends Tuolumne County Office of Schools Foster Youth Council Meetings when she can and collaborates with Amador, Mariposa, Calaveras and Tuolumne County agencies to support current and former foster youth transitioning into and through college.
